Matt Schultz

Co-Ceo, Founder and Lead Artist HeadMaze Inc.

Schultz is an accomplished Community Builder, Sculptor, Illustrator and Film Maker who is most known for his Monumental Sculptures at Burning Man and his ability to bring large teams together to create remarkable interactive experiences.

Matt is a lifelong student of the arts, exclaiming that he was first inspired to be an Animator/Architect at the age of 3 after watching 2 episodes of Sesame Street. He cut his teeth in film and television production learning the skills to run large teams and manage large budgets for the production of award winning content. Then he discovered Burning Man!

Burning Man created the space for Schultz to step into the role of visionary artist and community builder. Building the seminal Pier in 2011 and Ship (La LLorona) in 2012 Schultz honed his skills working with tight budgets and volunteer teams to build legendary artworks leading to his founding of The Generator Inc., a 35,000 sqf. non profit makerspace in Reno, NV.

As Executive Director of The Generator he raised over $3.5m and empowered thousands of artists to build their dream projects. In 2014 Schultz and a team of 104 volunteers built Embrace, a pair of 7 story, 190,000 pound people hugging that caught the worlds attention after they were lit on fire in a massive performance spectacle at burning man. Matt followed the success of Embrace with The Space Whale in 2016 and, inspired by the success of Meow Wolf, the original HeadMaze in 2019.
