HeadMaze was created by The Pier
Group, a collective of artists responsible for immersive monumental works at Burning Man over the last 10 years.

Embrace
Burning Man 2014

Embrace is likely our most notable artwork. A 180,000 lb, 7 story monument to the relationships of our lives. Taking nearly a year to build and a 104 person volunteer team to erect, it became the artwork that defined Burning Man in 2014. It was a temple to the people who have inspired our lives.

Burning Man 2016

The Space Whale is a full scale stained glass humpback whale mother and calf. A monumental testament to family, our relationships with nature, time and space and our responsibility to preserve our environment. Originally appearing as the Keyhole project at Burning Man 2016, The Space Whale now lives in front of City Hall in Reno, NV.

La Llorona (The Ship)
Burning Man 2012

After the wild success of the Pier we decided the best course of action was crashing a 90 foot long 3 story full Spanish galleon shipwreck into it. We had to top it with something and we thought a fire breathing pirate ship with a 4 year timeline (1880-1884) and 1000 props telling the story of our derelict time displaced crew was the perfect sequel.

Burning Man 2011, 2012, 2017

The Pier originally appeared at Burning Man in 2011, like a mirage it emerged out of the playa from nothing. The Pier was a launchpad for imagination and discovery. A meticulous ruin with every little detail (from 1,000 handmade cast led barnacles to the meticulous aging of every single bit of wood) made perfect. The Pier was our first artwork as a team that gained us international attention and it is still spoken of as most Burner’s favorite art piece of all time!

HeadMaze Prototype
Burning Man 2019

Head Maze is a 4 story meditating mind, resting on one hand and ripping its face off to reveal a crystalline stained glass being. Inside of the mind is an immaculate interactive 4 story, 18 room maze of our subconscious and dreams. It's a massive collaboration dedicated to the complexities of cognition, our common struggle between body and mind, nature and nurture and our persistently fluctuating perception of self. The Head Maze was partially installed at Burning Man 2019. Our team is working on securing funding for The Head Maze to become a permanent interactive art experience as inspired by the remarkable success of Meow Wolf.

Contact
Los Angeles, 2022

Contact is a 1st of its kind, next-level immersive, space opera paying homage to the legendary duo Daft Punk. The show is a kaleidoscopic, story-driven, multimedia and live musical reimagination of Random Access Memories, the album Daft Punk never performed live. Through cutting edge digital content, captivating lasers, 3-D mapping and practical effects the show tests new creative boundaries and captivates Daft Punk's massive die hard and casual fan base.

The Generator
Maker Space
Reno, NV

The Generator was founded in 2013 as a maker space with a collection of people, talents, and tools; driven by a primary mission to support community through art. The Generator was set up as a way to share skills, knowledge, and resources to help each other, and with the idea that the personal growth of the individual leads to the evolution of both the greater community and the work it produces. In addition to helping its local community, it helps service communities originating from around the world as they make their art, and way to Black Rock City.
